Friends of Venus Bay Peninsula has closed as an incorporated group from November 2020.
Since 2004 Friends of Venus Bay Peninsula have been working to control a Weed of National Significance (WoNS) threatening coastal vegetation at Venus Bay.
Bridal Creeper Asparagus asparagoides has invaded dense coastal bushland on private properties, public reserves and roadsides at Venus Bay. Approximately 40 hectares of Coast Banksia Woodland are threatened by this difficult to control environmental weed.
The Venus Bay Bridal Creeper Control program is ongoing and includes the use of biological controls, community weed watch, monitoring of sites and annual manual control work with both contractors and volunteers.
Friends of Venus Bay Peninsula gratefully acknowledge support from South Gippsland Landcare, Parks Victoria, Coastcare Victoria, DELWP, the National Asparagus Weeds Committee and the volunteers and contractors who have worked diligently to remove Bridal Creeper at Venus Bay.
