2009 to 2016 Venus Bay Beach 1 Car Park Revegetation Project

Friends of Venus Bay Peninsula partnered with Parks Victoria to revegetate a car park area denuded of vegetation when the car park was created. From 2009 to 2016 annual working bees were held to remove weeds and plant indigenous native seedlings.

This site suffered several set backs from vehicle and pedestrian traffic over peak summer periods. Bollards and protective fencing were eventually installed to protect the plantings. The temporary fencing was removed in 2016 when the plantings were well established and hopefully able to withstand some pedestrian pressure over peak summer periods. Timber bollards are permanently installed to prevent visitors parking over the vegetation.

This 8 year project received three funding grants from the Parks Victoria Community Fund Grants and is a good example of the long term commitment required to regain fragile coastal vegetation. Thanks to Parks Victoria for partnering with us on this project.
